Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What services do you offer?
We are a full-service beauty collective specializing in on-site wedding hair styling, professional makeup artistry, and luxury barber services (shaves, beard trims, and light styling). We focus exclusively on the wedding party to ensure a cohesive and stress-free experience for everyone.
Q: Where are you located and what areas do you service?
Our beauty studio, where we host all pre-wedding previews (trials), is located in Linden, New Jersey.
As an on-site collective, we primarily service the New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Connecticut areas. Standard travel fees apply within this range and will be detailed in your quote. Our travel fee is $100 per stylist.
Q: Do you offer destination wedding services?
Yes, we love destination weddings! We are available to travel worldwide to bring your vision to life.
Destination weddings require customized travel arrangements to ensure we are rested and ready for your day. Our package for destination weddings typically includes the following:
Arrival: We require travel arrangements for the team to arrive the day before the wedding.
Departure: We typically depart the day after the wedding.
Travel Costs: The client is responsible for covering all related travel expenses, which include:
Round-trip flights
Hotel accommodations (for the necessary nights)
Ground transportation (to and from the airport, and to/from the venue).
We will provide a detailed quote for your destination package that estimates these travel costs. See Destination Weddings for more information on how we serve destination weddings.
Q: How do we secure Beyond The Knot Collective for a destination wedding?
Once we provide the detailed breakdown and pricing for your destination wedding (including services and estimated travel), the primary client will have 48 hours to review and complete the invoice to secure the wedding services and confirm the booking. This deadline is necessary to lock in travel arrangements before estimated flight/hotel prices fluctuate.
Q: How far in advance should we book your services?
We recommend booking as soon as you have your wedding date and venue secured. 12 to 18 months in advance is common, especially for peak season dates (April-December). Popular dates book up quickly, so the sooner you secure your date with a retainer, the better.
Q: How do we secure our wedding date?
To officially book and secure your date, we require a signed contract and a non-refundable retainer (typically a percentage of the total service cost). The date remains open until both are received.
Q: What is a wedding preview, and is it required?
A wedding preview is a bridal trial, which is a dedicated appointment, typically a few months before your wedding, where we perfect your desired hair and makeup look. We spend 2-3 hours with you to perfect your look. We take photos, notes, and finalize all the details to ensure a seamless process on the wedding day. While not strictly required, it is highly recommended, especially for the primary client (the person receiving the most elaborate services), to eliminate guesswork and ensure your complete satisfaction.
Q: When should I schedule my preview?
We recommend scheduling your preview 2 to 4 months before your wedding. This gives you time to grow out your hair, finalize accessories, and ensure the look works with your dress and overall theme. Weekdays are often best for scheduling a preview.
Q: What should I bring to my hair, makeup or barber preview?
For your hair preview, please bring any veils, hairpieces, or accessories you plan to wear. For both hair and makeup, bring photos of looks you love (and maybe a few you don't!) and wear a top in a color similar to your wedding attire.
Q: How much time is needed for each service?
We pride ourselves on our efficiency and quality. Typical service times are:
Bridal Hair Styling: 2 hours
Bridal Makeup Artistry: 2 hours
Attendant/Party Member Hair: 1 hour
Attendant/Party Member Makeup: 1 hour
Barber Services (Shave/Trim): 1 hour
We will create a detailed, personalized timeline for you based on your final service count and photo-ready time.
Q: What do I need to do to prepare for the services on the wedding day?
To ensure your services run smoothly and on schedule, please follow these guidelines:
Hair
The primary client should provide us with 2-3 inspiration photos of the hairstyle they would like.
Attendants (bridesmaids, mothers, etc.) must submit 1-2 inspiration photos of their desired hairstyle prior to the wedding day. This is crucial for creating an accurate, on-time schedule.
We will send you and your party specific prep instructions (e.g., wash the night before, come with completely dry hair) based on your hair texture and the desired style. Please follow these instructions carefully.
Avoid using flat irons or excessive products unless instructed otherwise.
Makeup
Please arrive with a clean, moisturized face.
If you wear contact lenses, please have them put in before your makeup application begins.
Please have 3 inspiration photos of the makeup looks you love, and one recent photo of yourself wearing makeup. This helps us understand your color preferences and comfort level with different intensities.
Space
Please designate a comfortable space with ample counter/table space and easy access to electrical outlets. While natural light is always preferred, don't worry if it's limited, we bring professional lighting to ensure flawless artistry regardless of the room's conditions.
Q: Do your artists and barbers have experience with all hair textures and skin tones?
Absolutely! As a Black-owned collective, expertise and inclusivity are our foundation. Our team is hand-selected and trained to specialize in all hair textures, from fine and straight to natural curls, coils, locs, and weaves/wigs, and to flawlessly match and style all skin tones and complexions. We carry an intentionally curated, diverse product kit to ensure every member of your wedding party looks and feels celebrated.
Q: Can Beyond The Knot Collective accommodate large wedding parties?
Absolutely! We are built as a collective specifically to handle large and diverse wedding parties efficiently. We maintain a talented and seasoned team of hairstylists, makeup artists, and barbers. Once we know your final service count and your 'ready-by' time, we will strategically assign the appropriate number of artists to ensure a smooth, relaxed, and on-time experience for everyone, no matter the size of your group.
Q: Do you offer services for the groom and groomsmen?
Yes! Our collective includes professional barbers who provide luxury men's grooming services right on-site. This can include precision shaves, crisp line-ups, beard grooming, and light styling. We ensure the entire wedding party, including the groom, is looking sharp and picture-perfect for photos.
Q: Is there a minimum number of services required?
Yes, we typically have a 4 minimum service requirement for all weddings during peak season, which will be specified in your quote. This ensures we can dedicate our team and time exclusively to your event.
Q: How is pricing structured?
Our services are priced a la carte, based on individual services for the primary client and each wedding party member. Travel fees and additional stylist fees may apply.

Q: When is the final payment due?
The final balance is typically due one day prior to the wedding date. We do accept day-of payments in cash before services begin to ensure a stress-free and smooth morning for you.
Q: Do you accept gratuity?
Gratuity is greatly appreciated for excellent service, though never expected. It can be given directly to the artists and barbers on the day of service in cash in an envelope after services are rendered.
